how we

create

The Tamaki community are working together to change their experience of mental health and wellbeing. To facilitate this challenge we have established a social lab - a new and exciting way to bring people together and to identify ways of tackling complex issues. The lab is a space where people can engage, share their experiences and help to shape services and support. This approach encourages new and experimental solutions that are relevant to Tamaki.

The insights and vision of the community are the driving force behind this work, so come down to visit us!

What is a  Social Lab?

Traditionally the design of services and community support has been led by people that are separate from the community they are working for.  Social labs offer a new way for us all to work together, to address complex challenges and to co-design solutions that are relevant to our communities.

The Tamaki mental health and wellbeing social lab is a space where people in Tamaki can work together, share their experiences and help to shape the services and support that they, their Whanau or community will use.

This lab is an opportunity to be experimental, to test ideas, to fail and to try again.  It is reliant on the community to learn, connect and create ideas. The insights and vision of the community are the driving force behind this work.

Ways of working

We are working together with the Tamaki community to change their experience of mental health and wellbeing.

To facilitate this challenge we have established a social lab - a new and exciting way to bring people together and to identify ways of tackling complex issues. This approach will encourage new and experimental solutions that are relevant to Tamaki.

What is Co-Design?

In order to identify solutions for the five Tamaki mental health and well-being initiatives, we are adopting a human centred design approach.

The approach is structured into three overlapping phases; inspiration, ideation and implementation.

Inspiration is the challenge or opportunity that sparks the search for solutions.

Ideation is about generating, developing, and testing ideas.

Implementation is the path from the prototype into people’s lives.
